"Evil thrives in Imo as PDP is dicile " Ex-Imo State governor says

  udenwa
Former governor of Imo State, Chief Achike Udenwa, has said that the major reason the current government led by Governor Rochas Okorocha is entrenching evil and hardship in the state is because the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state is docile.
Udenwa’s
comment followed the mass sack of thousands of workers in the state and the attendant alleged shoot demonstrating against what they called “anti life policies of the Okorocha government”.
Speaking when the new caretaker executive members paid him a courtesy visit in his Owerri residence, the former governor stated that most of the people who served in the party executives from ward to state levels were only answerable to people who handpicked them as party executives and never responsible to the real owners of the party – the people.
He insisted that evil was thriving in the state because those who were at the helm of the affairs of the party did not know what to do at any given time.
Udenwa lamented that the party could not win House of Assembly elections in several constituencies because most of the candidates fielded were as a result of names written by individuals, who claimed to own the party, as against popular choices of the people.
Meanwhile, following a reported plan by organised labour, led by the national leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), to stage a protest in the state over the suspended workers of 19 parastatals, the state governor, Rochas Okorocha, has appealed to the NLC leadership in the state and at the national level to shelve their planned protest.
According to a statement signed by Sam Onwuemeodo, the governor’s spokesman, Okorocha had wished that instead of embarking on the protest that may be of no benefit to anyone, the national leadership of the NLC should be patriotic enough to advise the leadership of the NLC in the state to honour their invitations to participate in the 18 – member Committee set up by the Governor to review the cases of the staff affected by the said suspension, so that the matter can be resolved amicably.
The statement noted that the committee has the NLC; the Trade Union Congress (TUC); Nigeria Medical Association; National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE); Representative of Magistrates Association; Representative of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU); Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN); Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and representative of the Judiciary Service Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) as members, but regretted that the unions last Tuesday shunned the inauguration of the committee.
