Small Businesses Must Pay Tax In Ogun State

It will no longer be business as usual for self-employed people in Ogun State as the state government has hinted that they will soon start paying tax.
Chairman of the state internal revenue service, Mr. Kunle Adeosun, said this became inevitable in view of the dwindling
revenue from the federation account.
He spoke during a workshop organised for transition chairmen and heads of local government administration in the state.
While lamenting the low IGR from the state twenty council areas, the IRS boss said the state government was left with no other option than to introduce the tax.
Adeosun identified leakages in the tax system in the state, particularly from council areas, charging the chairmen to be more alive to their responsibilities.
Those who will be mandated to pay the tax will include among others, artisans, commercial motor cyclists, taxi drivers and pettey traders.
According to him, only 280,000 people out of an estimated 6 million residents of the state are currently paying the monthly income tax including Pay As You Earn.
