Men of the Nigerian Navy on Friday December
8, arrested two suspected political thugs in Peremabiri community of
Southern Ijaw area of Bayelsa state.
The thugs were said to have been hired by one of the political parties to disrupt the gubernatorial election scheduled to hold on Saturday, December 9.
One of the thugs identified as Ebi was arrested after a hot chase by the youths and a special vigilante group in the community.
The other suspect who was hiding in the bush to unleash a deadly attack was also apprehended.
A source in the community said Ebi confessed to have been paid N50,000 for the aborted mayhem.
Another resident also revealed that youths in the community led by Eris Paul, a former militant popularly known as ‘Ogunboss’ had also foiled series of attempts by some political thugs to invade the community.
The duo were reportedly handed over to men of the Nigerian Navy.
Since the gubernatorial election that took place in Southern Ijaw on December 5, 2015, was cancelled, the local government has been a hot zone. Series of violence have been recorded in the various communities as the political gladiators luck horns in battle for supremacy.
