The market for "smart TV" devices is hotting
up. Google, Amazon and Apple have all launched new devices in the last
few months, and the rise of Netflix and Amazon's Prime Instant Video
mean there are more options than ever for watching TV online.
According to Ofcom,
TV viewers in the UK are the most technologically-advanced in the world. Some 81 per cent use online services to watch TV or films. But many still do not own a smart TV box.

This year, Apple launched the
latest version of its Apple TV, the first generation of the device to
feature an app store. Tim Cook, Apple's chief executive, has called it
the future of TV.
e competition are Google's Chromecast, Roku, and Amazon Fire TV.
Along with Apple, the four companies accounted for 86pc of sales in their market in 2014.

Sky has also announced its new TV platform, Sky Q, ahead of a launch due in early 2016.
It’s designed to let users seamlessly access live TV, recorded shows and catch-up TV on separate TVs and tablets, and will be 4K compatible.
