The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone
12, Tunde Ogunsakin, on Monday, said Boko Haram insurgents are now on
the run but are deadly and needed to be taken seriously.
Ogunsakin, who was in Maiduguri to boost the morale of the men of
the Borno State Police Command, said the insurgency would soon be
history but urged Nigerians not go relent but to be alive to the new
threat of the terrorist group.
He said the terrorists were more dangerous than before as witnessed
by the numerous explosions in mosques in the North-East region carried
our by the militants.
Ogunsakin believed that the insurgents would soon be exterminated
in the face of the combined efforts of the Nigerian security agencies to
meet the December deadline set by President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said recent events had shown that “just like wounded lions, the
insurgents are deadlier and more dangerous than in the past,” but “this
is a battle that our gallant police officers are ready for and
definitely are winning.”
The police boss warned men of the Borno State Police Command that
he had zero tolerance for act that would disrupt the peace and order in
any of the states under his control.
The said, “We must overwhelm any person or group that will rise to disrupt public peace.
“I urge you to continue to work assiduously and seek your
cooperation and commitment towards ensuring that law and order is
maintained in Borno State.
“It is important to let you know that the Nigeria Police have a key
role, synergising with other security agencies in ensuring that peace
is restored back to the entire North-East.
